- Plans WESCOM's long-, medium-, and short-term operational needs
- Manages call-handling and dispatch of all police, fire, and Emergency Medical Dispatch activities through deputy directors
- Directs, assigns, and is responsible for the activities and performance of all WESCOM employees
- Enforces all applicable rules and regulations, ordinances, laws, general and special orders, policies, procedures, directives, and Collective Bargaining Agreements
- Maintains effective working relationships between employees, government officials, and the general public
- Attends various meetings, seminars, conferences, etc., at the local, county, state, regional, national, and international level
- Communicates with the WESCOM Board on a regular basis
