9-1-1 Telecommunicator

Location:
Plainfield, Illinois

Description:
Answer incoming emergency and routine assistance calls

  • Independently assess the need and urgency of requests and situations
  • Dispatch emergency response personnel including law enforcement, firefighters, and emergency medical professionals
  • Receive and accurately relay information, messages and requests for the communications center
  • Perform Emergency Medical Dispatch
  • Enter data into WESCOM and State computer databases
  • Operate radio and telecommunication systems including computer aided dispatching equipment (CAD), telephone device for the deaf (TDD/TTY), fax machines, and telephones
  • Maintain knowledge of current communication policies and procedures
  • Maintain knowledge of local, state and national dispatch standards
  • Participate in on-going training
  • Answer telephone requests for information
  • Perform emergency warning notifications
  • Perform clerical and general office functions
  • Provide court testimony as required
  • Monitor bank, business, and residential alarms
  • Operate LEADS system

All training requirements are performed during work hours and are paid for by WESCOM.

*Benefits and salary are subjected to the current Collective Bargaining Agreement which expires April 30, 2025.

Salary
From trainee level of $46,601 to top-out at $78,056 + opportunity for overtime pay

Hours of Work
Rotation of 8 to 10 hour shifts with a maximum of 12 hours with overtime.

Between 80 hours and 200 hours based on years of service at WESCOM

Other Paid-Time-Off
Perfect attendance days, two personal days each year, comp time available, 96 sick hours earned each year up to 960 hours accrual.

 

 Quality Assurance (QA) Coordinator

WESCOM is seeking candidates for a part-time Quality Assurance (QA) Coordinator.

WESCOM is currently seeking qualified candidates to fill the position of Quality Assurance (QA) Coordinator. The QA Coordinator is responsible for the review and critiquing of calls for service to ensure compliance with established protocols and policies.

This position does not function as or perform the duties of a Telecommunicator.

This is a part-time position, averaging 16-20 hours per week, with flexible scheduling available.

There are limited benefits as provided under the Paid Leave for All Workers Act. Starting pay is $20.00 - $25.00 per hour based on experience and qualifications.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Reviews calls for service to ensure compliance with WESCOM and Will County 911 protocols and policies
  • Identifies incidents of outstanding performance in call-handling, recommends recognition as appropriate to supervisory personnel
  • Identifies incidents of potential negligence, liability, or significant protocol and/or policy violations and reports such to supervisory personnel
  • Prepares audio recordings upon request for call critiques, investigations, or training • Provides written and in-person feedback regarding call reviews
  • Analyzes data and trends to identify training needs
  • Assists in preparing training materials related to call-taking and protocols
  • Represents WESCOM at EMS system meetings, other EMD related meetings as directed by a Deputy Director or the Executive Director
  • Coordinates EMD licensing through the Will County 911 Office, EMS system, and IDPH
  • Assists in tracking and ensuring EMD continuing education requirements are met by EMD’s
  • Prepares periodic reports as requested
  • Periodically work any of the three WESCOM shifts to provide feedback and training as necessary to Telecommunicators

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Three (3) years of experience in public safety
  • Must be of strong moral and ethical character
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license
  • Ability to work with and maintain confidential documents, recordings, and conversations
  • Must achieve and maintain appropriate level of NIMS and EMD certification
  • Strong analytical and logical problem-solving skills
  • Proficient in the English language (oral and written)
  • Proficient in computer skills compatible to Microsoft Office; Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint
